TEACHER’S DAY

Teacher’s Day is a day to celebrate and appreciate the work of teachers around the world. It is also a day to raise awareness of the challenges and opportunities that teachers face in their profession. Different countries have different dates and traditions for Teacher’s Day, but some common themes are gratitude, recognition, and support for teachers.

According to UNESCO, World Teachers’ Day is held annually on October 5 to commemorate the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions. The theme for 2023 is “The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage.”.

In Mozambique, Teacher’s Day is held on October 12, during which teachers are honored and appreciated for their hard work and perseverance. It’s the day for students to express their gratitude to teachers by giving gifts, cards, or flowers.

The commemoration was done with a short program in which students danced, sang, and created poems for the teachers. Earlier, students gave flowers and gifts, and all the teachers were very happy to have this day special for them. Congratulations to Kaya Paco, the president of Student Council, and the vice president, Aesha Dungdung, for a job well done.
